Bohras from Yemen sail to Dar-es-Salaam
Bohras from war torn Yemen, where continued airstrikes and war strife ravage the country; have taken to the sea in order to reach the 1438AH Moharram sermons with Syedna in Tanzania.
With air travel all but impossible they hired a boat to cross the Red Sea to Djibouti from where they took flights to Dar-es-Salaam. Their arduous journey began from villages in the Haraaz mountains from where they first reached the Yemeni capital Sanaa and then to the port city of Aden. From there they sailed to Djibouti before reaching Nairobi from where some flew to Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar or Dar-es-Salaam while others took the 18 hour bus journey from Nairobi to Dar.
One traveller said it took them 16 hours to travel from Sanaa to Aden due to military checkpoints; a journey that normally takes just 5 to 6.
